How to Start a Private Label Activewear Brand: A Step-by-Step Guide

To start a private label activewear brand: define your niche and customer, design a small first collection, choose a manufacturer that offers low minimums and samples, approve a sample, then order a small first batch with your own labels and packaging. This guide walks through each step with the decisions, costs and timelines brands ask us about most.

1. Choose your niche and customer

Activewear is crowded, so start specific: yoga, CrossFit, running, women's gym wear, team sports or streetwear-athleisure. A clear customer tells you which products to launch, which fabrics to use and what price you can charge.

2. Plan a small first collection

Most brands launch with 2–5 products that work together, for example leggings, a sports bra and a tee, or a hoodie and joggers set. Fewer designs keep your first order and stock affordable.

3. Create the designs and tech pack

A tech pack lists everything the factory needs: sketches, measurements per size, fabric, colors (Pantone codes), logo positions and labels. If you only have an idea or a reference photo, our designers create a free mockup with you.

4. Pick the fabric and branding

Choose fabric by activity and feel (see the fabric guide) and pick a branding method (see printing methods compared). Private-label details — woven neck labels, hang tags, branded elastic and packaging — make the product look like your own brand. See private label.

5. Order and test a sample

Never skip the sample. At Pro Bravio a sample costs US$50 and is ready in about 2 days, then ships by DHL (typically 2–3 working days). Check fit on real people, wash it, stretch it and check the print. Request changes before you approve.

6. Place a small first production order

Start at or near the minimum — 10 pieces per design at Pro Bravio — to test demand, then scale up the products that sell. Remember that some extras have their own minimums, such as printing from 100 pieces and custom labels from 500 (see the MOQ guide).

7. Set up shipping, photos and sales

Plan shipping and import costs to your country (USA, UK, EU, Canada or Australia), take product photos, and launch on your website, marketplaces and social media. Re-orders are faster because patterns, artwork and labels already exist.

It depends on products, fabric and quantity. The main costs are samples, the first production run, labels and packaging, shipping and duties, photos and marketing. Starting with a few designs at a low minimum keeps the first investment small. Send us your plan for a quote.
